At Eversheds Julian was responsible for managing the team of software developers
and analysts responsible for the production of bespoke systems for use within the
firm as well as the customisation and integration of systems from other suppliers.
Systems produced included:
- Bespoke case management systems - from simple client reporting systems through to
complex multi-user workflow solutions processing high volumes of transactions on
behalf of large institutional clients.
- A nationwide knowledge management system capable of seamlessly presenting internal
and external knowledge and disseminating it across the firm.
- Development of complex management reporting systems taking key information from
the firms core systems and presenting it to partners and clients.
- Large and complex deployments of the Solicitec (now VisualFiles) case management
system for conveyancing, debt collection and other departments.
- Development of database driven Intranet sites
At Osborne Clarke Julian managed a cross-disciplinary team responsible for the identification,
selection and introduction of new technology to the practice. The team was
also charged with getting the maximum value out of the firms existing technology.
Key project included:
- Devising, presenting and implementing the firms IT strategy in conjunction with
the Chief Executive and IT Manager.
- Project management and implementation of the firms global iManage document management
rollout
- Selection, project management and implementation of a firm wide rollout of the Interaction
CRM software
- Implementation of web based client extranets in conjunction with
Marketing Director Nicola Webb.
- Responsibility for the Elite practice management system and other financial systmems
Legal Technology Solutions was established in 2003 to provide technical solutions
to small and medium sized law firms along with other firms providing legal services.
Recent projects include:
- Development of a bespoke software package to reduce significantly the amount of
support staff time needed by a large law firm to maintain the firms precedent database.
This was achieved by automating cumbersome formatting and document reorganisation
tasks.
- Delivery of a range of law firm websites in conjunction with
www.Implementor.biz
- Advising a specialist conveyancing practice on IT strategy in relation to case management
systems and other aspects of overall strategy.
- Advising a start-up practice on the most appropriate use of technology to allow
them to provide the required service to their clients within tight time and budget
constraints.
- Development of a Microsoft SharePoint solution to enable a small but growing practice
to operate efficiently over the Internet with lawyers working mainly from home and
on the move.
Julian writes a number of articles each year for industry journals and related
publications. He also undertakes a small number of speaking engagements, the most
notable of which was being asked to speak at and chair the annual
Legal IT Show
in London 2005.
